Food Freedom For The Holidays

If you’re reading this, it means you are ready for CHANGE. You don’t want to feel the same food obsession and discomfort in your body that you have in previous years. You want a holiday season focused on connection with family and friends, enjoying food, and feeling great in your body. If that’s the case, keep reading!

Let’s talk thanksgiving, specifically. On the left in the image above, you might recognize a pattern. It’s the classic skip-all-meals-until-Thanksgiving-dinner situation that without fail, leaves you feeling overly full and completely uncomfortable. It starts with skipping breakfast, then maybe doing a turkey 5k run or workout at the gym, and shortly after our blood sugar will plummet. Your body will work hard to stabilize it, but you can’t clear the mental fog that ensues and pretty soon ALL you can think about is food (your body is smart that way). The Thanksgiving meal FINALLY comes around and then you eat so much that you’re left feeling uncomfortable and regretful. For the rest of the holiday and the days that follow, all you can think about about is how you wish you could undo how much you ate and how you can burn it all off.

I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be like this.

This year I want you to try something new. Get up at your normal time and eat breakfast. A normal breakfast that you would any other day. Then consider going for a walk or moving your body in a way that you love. Throughout the day, stay hydrated and respond to hunger and fullness cues, never thinking that you “shouldn’t” eat if you’re hungry. Your holiday meal approaches and I want you to let yourself feel the excitement of what you’re about to eat and take 3 deep breaths. Since you won’t be ravenous when the meal starts, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to respond to your fullness cues and when you’re comfortably full, take a pause. Know that you have permission to keep eating and know that if you decide to stop, leftovers will be there!

For the roadmap to a holiday of food freedom, look to the right side of the image above. Remember: there is no “perfect” when it comes to doing what’s best for your body!
