How To Get Yourself Out of a Food Rut

Do you feel like you constantly find yourself staring into the abyss that is your refrigerator, freezer and pantry- only to be left frustrated with NO IDEA of what you are in the mood for????

Okay, we have been there too! This happens sometimes on this journey and it is VERY NORMAL. Dieting puts food on a pedestal and when you are going through the phases of intuitive eating, at first, it’s all NEW and FUN and EXCITING. But, after some time, when you have made peace with food, have more fun foods allowed in the house and have really experimented with VARIETY, you can start to go through periods where food just feels, less glamorous. That’s really normal and not a bad thing. Food does not always need to be amazing or “hit the spot” as they say. It’s awesome when we know exactly what we are in the mood for, but depending upon where you are at in this journey or what is going on in your life (personal stress, job stress, sickness, etc), that’s not always realistic.

So…. what can you do?

Step 1: Assess your grocery routine. Are you making an effort to add some new proteins, carbs, fats, flavors, veggies and fruits into your rotation? Switching up a few of your “go-tos” for new items to add into your rotation makes all the difference when open up your fridge/pantry. Our bodies like different flavors and products!

Step 2: Seek inspiration. Recipe blogs (like ours!), recipe books, our teams Instagram pages, other social media bloggers, and even restaurant menus online are all easy places to look for inspiration. I often just skim recipes books in my house and make a spin-off of a dish that catches my eye. Sometimes we just need a little help!

Step 3:  Do you need to get out of the house or order in? If you typically are always making meals at home or ONLY eat out on the weekends, maybe, just maybe, you need to switch it up and order out/ dine out. This is something my clients are sometimes shocked by, because ordering out during the weekdays was previously “off limits”. Ordering out/ dining out during the weekdays can be exactly the break you need to not think about preparing a meal!

As we always say, food should be EASY, fun and also practical. We hope these steps inspire you to assess where you are at in your journey and what might be helpful for you to add some spice back into your kitchen!

XOXO
