Your Hydration Needs + A Popsicle Recipe you MUST TRY.
HYDRATION IS THE KEY TO HAPPINESS!
That may be a stretch but it sounded good when I was typing it LOL.
The truth is though, year round, hydration is one of the most important things you can do for your health.
When you are not properly hydrated your physical performance (fitness) can suffer, your energy suffers, you may feel slight or worse headaches, cramping, constipation and the list goes on. So on the flip side, when you are properly hydrated your body can perform at its absolute best and most comfortable.
In case you are not sold yet, more benefits of proper hydration include:
keeping your body temperature within a normal range
lubricating and cushioning your joints
protecting your body tissues
helping you eliminate waste through urine, sweat, and bowel movements
Where as everyone’s hydration needs are different a general rule of thumb would be to aim to drink about 1/2 of your body weight in oz. as a BASELINE. This is not specific to hot summer months or fitness actitivy as well (recommendations can be made with a health professional for you specifically!) BUT, one major thing to note though, as you may be reading this and thinking OMG I do not drink enough let me catch up. DO NOT DO THAT.
It is very important to spread your water intake out throughout the day.
Chugging fluids or drinking too much at once can have negative effects. Sip your water throughout your day for best results. Many times, what your body doesn’t need at a given time will be wasted. Too much water at once may not all go to hydrating you, slow down and stay consistent.
BUT WHAT IF YOU FIND WATER SO BORING.
I get it. It totally can be. So adding in frozen fruits or fresh fruits and herbs like mint to your plain water can be one great way to spice it up and keep it fun.
OR!
You can try my newest obsession. Maple water! Not maple syrup, or thick, gooey water, literally water that comes from maple trees and has this amazingly subtle, sweet flavor with so many benefits.
Drink Simple maple water is literally, per their website:
“Maple water is pure sap from the maple trees. It's a common misconception that all sap is sticky. Maple sap actually looks and feels just like regular water. The main difference is that maple water goes through a natural process that infuses it with nutrients. In early spring, maple trees pull water from the ground and filter it through their roots. This water collects nutrients stored in the tree all winter and provides hydration and nourishment that enable the tree’s growth and rejuvenation in the spring renewal season.”
HOW FREAKING COOL IS THAT.
Maple water contains added minerals, antioxidants, some electrolytes and polyphenols IN ADDITION to its naturally sweet flavor without any added sugar. And above all, it tastes REALLY good.
PLUS. Straight from their site:
“A Study in the International Journal of Molecular Medicine found that drinking maple water before alcohol can boost the rate at which alcohol is metabolized in the body. Therefore, this could potentially reduce, or lessen the severity of a hangover.”
Talk about added benefits.
Anyways, Drink Simple sent me some product to enjoy (LOVE YOU GUYS!) and I fell in love. I played around with so many fun recipes, but the one that stole my heart, and will be on repeat this summer FOR SURE - was the homemade popsicles!! As seen on TikTok
How to make these babies!
What you need:
Fresh cut fruit of your choice!
I used: orange slices, fresh and frozen berries
Mint leaves or basil could be fun too!
Optional: you could add a little honey or sweetner if you want, I did not and they were so good without but totally could.
Fun ice pop mold! I used this: CLICK HERE
How to!
Fill the bottom of the ice pop molds with your fruit and fun add ins of your choice! Fill the remainder of the mold with maple water and top with the ice pop stick!
Stick in the freezer overnight, and then wake up to the most fun you will ever have hydrating!
These could also totally be used in a fun drink (think those really awesome IG pics with popsicles sitting in cups!) Literally maybe let it sit in a wide glass of prosecco or champagne and melt in with its deliciousness! OR you could turn this recipe into ice cubes and then have it melt into your spirit of choice, or into your regular water or sparkling water! So many fun options!
But overall, the reason I like the product? It tastes good. And you know that matters most to me!
Can’t wait to hear what you think and see the combos you come up with!!!
ENJOY!
XO!
Jenna
